There are approximately 705,000(*1) registered sex offenders in the United States, living in our neighborhoods today. As alarming as that number may seem, there are over 100,000*(2) undocumented sex offenders who either did not register or were able to manipulate the system to avoid registering altogether. The unfortunate reality is there are probably more undocumented sex offenders than there are registered sex offenders due to fear to report sexual assault crimes and failure to prosecute all sexual assault criminals.
Perhaps the most greatest concern we must overcome as parents of young children concerning sexual assault crimes, is that 1 out of every 3 girls and 1 out of every 6 boys will become a victim of a sexual assault attack*(3). Another very startling fact is the extremely high repeat rate that sexual assault offenders commit after convicted. At least 90%*(4) of all convicted offenders will sexually assault again and potentially use aggressive and/or deadly force to silence their victim(s). This is why we must be involved with our State legislators to enforce laws that will allow parents the tools to identify all sexual assault criminals.
When we can identify our enemies, we can defeat our enemies!!
We need to create a national networking system that will require strict regulations and public alerts to provide warnings to communities through e-mail, newspaper publications, media outlets and a system with consistent updates and current sex offender information. We must also push for legislation to pass laws that will require registered sex offenders limited and restrictive access to our schools, parks, bus stops, family designated events and child based employment. Sexual assault criminals have no business around our children!!
